We are committed to adhering to the principles of sustainable nature tourism and responsible choices in our operations. For us, responsibility means not only responsibility for the environment but also responsibility in everyday life and practices. Our operations are based on transparency and honesty. We aim to promote sustainable development and create positive impacts on both the environment and communities, offering our customers unforgettable nature experiences. Biodiversity is essential for human life and health. Nature conservation enhances biodiversity. We strive to minimize the burden on the environment in all our activities. Our customer promise is to provide sustainable services to all travelers, visitors, and partners equally.
We offer travel experiences that respect local traditions, culture, and customs. Our company adheres to ethical and moral principles in its operations, rejecting any form of commercial, sexual, or other exploitation or discrimination.
Our log cabins are built from trees harvested from our own land. A log house sequesters over 1,5 kg of carbon dioxide from the air for every kilogram of wood grown. The breathable wall structure of a log house balances heat and moisture, ensuring good indoor air quality. The log wall can absorb heat directly from the sun's rays and, on the other hand, also the coolness of the night during summer nights. Wood regulates temperature differences and reduces the need for heating and cooling, thus saving energy. Heating is adjusted according to customer events, and an air-source heat pump is in use.
We encourage our customers to arrive at our destinations using public transportation or shared transport.
In our activity services, we offer sustainable forms of exercise that utilize one's own muscle power, such as walking, cycling, canoeing, rowing, snowshoeing, and kick sledding.
When purchasing products and services, we prioritize local, environmentally friendly, and fair trade-compliant suppliers whenever possible and when the quality is high enough. We favor certified and eco-labeled products.
Our food offerings consist of traditional Finnish fare: vegetables, roots, berries, mushrooms, and whenever possible, local fish. In wine procurement, we prefer organically grown wines. Drinking and utility water come from our own well. We do not use disposable tableware.
Accessibility means safety and acceptance of diversity. In our services, we ensure equal treatment regardless of background or personal limitations, relating to aspects such as vision, hearing, understanding, and communication. However, wheelchair access is challenging in our premises, and unfortunately, our old log cabins are not wheelchair accessible. The Reindeer Park is accessible via a wide wooden plank path with a railing at the end and a few steps on a rocky slope. The rocky outdoor area of the Reindeer Park is not wheelchair accessible.
The well-being of the reindeer in our Reindeer Park is of utmost importance to us, and encounters with reindeer always occur on the reindeer's terms. The head caretaker of the reindeer ensures the well-being of our reindeer together with the care team. Our reindeer are very accustomed to people and eagerly come to greet, especially if lichen is offered. Our reindeer can only be encountered within their own enclosure in Nuuksio Reindeer Park; we do not rent reindeer for any events as it would cause unnecessary stress to the reindeer.
In our operations, we adhere to the laws and regulations of the Finnish tourism industry. Safety and rescue plans have been prepared for activity programs, we follow a self-monitoring plan for food safety, a semi-annual notification of serving alcoholic beverages is submitted to the Finnish Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira), climbing equipment and personal protective equipment are regularly inspected, and inspection reports are maintained. Our company has comprehensive liability insurance.
Our company has been awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland mark and the GOOD TRAVEL SEAL certificate as evidence of valuable and long-term work for sustainable tourism. Responsibility work is ongoing, and we encourage other nature tourism companies to join the STF path.
